Training and Development
During your two years in the scheme you will follow a formal training programme requiring attendance at courses delivered in London. You will also attend courses and workshops organised by OGC. The training programme will place extra demands on your time, and may require you to spend time on exercises and revision.
In your first year in the scheme you will study for the Certificate of Competence in Purchasing and Supply. This develops Government knowledge and workplace skills, providing an opportunity for civil servants, engaged in purchasing and supply, to demonstrate their professionalism. The certificate is administered jointly by OGC and the National School of Government.
In the second year you will study for the CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply) Graduate Diploma. This is a degree-level qualification and is an increasingly important qualification for those wishing to pursue a procurement-based career, whether in the public or private sector.
In addition to these formal training courses, OGC organises quarterly workshops for members of the scheme at which you will hear about the work of procurement organisations, meet staff engaged in cutting-edge procurement projects, and mix with other trainees on similar schemes.
