Salaries & promotions

You will enter the scheme as an Executive
Officer or equivalent within one of the participating departments, and can expect to earn in the region of £20 - 23,000 p.a. During your two years' membership of the scheme you will be eligible for award of pay increases and any allowances as determined by your home department. Upon successful completion of the scheme you can expect to be promoted to Higher Executive Officer or equivalent, assuming that you have demonstrated an acceptable standard of performance and achievement.

The achievement of the CIPS Graduate Diploma will qualify you for full membership of CIPS, once you have completed the requirements for relevant work experience. You can then expect to progress further in the Government Procurement Service, taking on significant responsibilities for procurement projects and policies. We expect to see GPGS graduates becoming the Heads of Procurement and Commercial Directors in departments in the years to come.
